Release Your Ideas - Entrepreneurship Week at Duke University - November 17-23, 2008

OLV Meet & Greet
"Connect with Invention Managers from the
Office of Licensing and Ventures"
Tuesday, November 18
8:30-10:00AM
Two Locations: Schiciano Atrium and Hall of Science - LSRC

Graduate students, post-docs, and faculty who are interested in learning more about commercializing their research are invited to meet with the Invention Portfolio Managers from the Office of Licensing and Ventures. We would be excited to introduce ourselves to researchers who have not yet worked with our office, as well as reacquaint ourselves with those who have. Let us tell you more about who we are, what we do, and how we can help translate your research. Breakfast and coffee will be provided.

About OLV

The Office of Licensing & Ventures (OLV) is responsible for patents, technology licenses and new venture development for Duke University and Medical Center. Through direct, daily interaction with faculty, small and large businesses, and venture investors, we build strong relationships and strong agreements to translate academic discoveries into commercial products that benefit society, impact public health, and improve the quality of life.

"Turn your invention into a startup"
Tuesday, November 18
11:30 AM -4:00 PM
Searle Center

Calling all Engineers, Scientists and Med School Students!  You've been working on that great idea, but you've always wondered "how do I become the next Google/Biogen/Medtronic?". Take a few steps towards understanding the value of your ideas in the commercial world.  This set of breakouts is meant to guide you through a few of the key questions you'll need to raise: How have other grad students commercialized their ideas?  How do I work on securing a license from Duke?  What do venture capitalists think about these ideas? No prior knowledge of entrepreneurship is expected - just have an open mind!

"Linking Ideas to Impact – Showcase from the Duke
Office of Licensing & Ventures”
in partnership with inDuke Frontiers
Sponsored by Hutchison Law Group
Tuesday, November 18
4:00 PM -8:30 PM
Searle Center

Curious about how Duke discoveries (more than 150 inventions per year!) get developed into products that benefit society and improve human health? Duke’s Office of Licensing & Ventures, OLV (www.olv.duke.edu), builds networks to link Duke inventors to outside companies and investors and then negotiates agreements to start new companies or to give existing companies the ability to create new products based on Duke inventions. To learn how it all works, come to the OLV Showcase to meet OLV’s Invention Managers and hear from OLV Executive Director, Dr. Rose Ritts (keynote at 4:00 pm). You can ask questions, hear about some of the 63 agreements negotiated so far in 2008, and mingle at posters highlighting some of Duke’s hottest new inventions to see what is on the horizon for 08-09.
